Easing you into motherhood

Post-partum doula support

Shea & Baby Harper

My support doesn’t end at the moment of birth, but remains. Soon after the birth, I will meet with you to speak about the birth experience. We will have a special time to share feelings, process, internalize the experience and see all the positive as well as any difficult aspects of the birth. You may find that the birth experience gives important insights about your life and sheds light on how you have grown through the process.

“Tami would call and check on me and find out if I needed anything. She came by my house so many times with delicious, healthy food that she cooked for my husband and I….She was so amazingly generous, gracious and kind. As I was nurturing my sweet little baby, she was nurturing me with kind words, wonderful warm food and just a sweet presence….Tami was always so soothing and uplifting. She was such a friend to me! I cannot imagine Tami not being in my life the next time I give birth. She is wonderful and I love her very much.” (Angela)

“And it didn’t stop after the baby was born. Your visit to the hospital and again to my home, talking, advising, getting the foods and things I’d need to get back my strength…You were my doula, friend, nurse, and like a caring mother, truly concerned for every aspect of my wellbeing.” (Goldie)

Through the close bond we have formed, the mother knows that she can approach me with anything she needs after the birth, and that someone who understands her is close by. I am there to help reinforce the mother’s self- confidence and facilitate and soften the transition to motherhood. I am available to support her emotional and physical wellbeing, and I can provide preliminary assistance and more as necessary, including:

• Some help with household tasks and organization

• Cooking

• Taking over care of baby – so you can sleep, or have some time to yourself

• A relaxing massage

• Talking, encouragement, empathy, emotional acceptance

• Advice

• Other help, as needed

All this help can make this transition period easier, and facilitate positivity and confidence.

As well, you’re welcome to make use of my other fields of expertise to improve your life style and well-being. Those include Sivanada Yoga and Ayurvedic massage.

I know how demanding being a mother can be. This class will help you relax, recharge, center yourself, and bring you joy for the upcoming week by practicing deep relaxation and breathing through a set of balanced sequences of asanas moving at a slow pace in a familiar, warm, supportive atmosphere.

“Tami’s postpartum yoga class has been a wonderful experience. It’s one of the only times during the week that I am able to focus on myself and my body/recovery after labor.” (Daniela)

Based on my insight that Yoga is Birth and Birth is Yoga, birth is not only for women. There is a physical aspect of giving birth to a baby and then there is a rebirth of yourself.

Sivananda Yoga is a traditional yoga style which follows the teachings of Swami Sivananda, as brought to the west by his disciple Swami Vishnu-Devananda. Swami Vishnu-Devananda came to the United States in 1957, making Sivananda an important part of yoga's first wave of popularity outside India. Sivananda teachings are a synthesis of all the formed doctrines of yoga.

This system of yoga is a simple, natural program involving five main principles: proper exercise, proper breathing, proper relaxation, proper diet, positive thinking and meditation. The goal of this practice is to promote physical, mental, and spiritual well being.

For more information visit www.sivananda.org

No prior experience is necessary and everyone is welcome to come (women as well as men).  Sunday classes at 2:15pm in the Prenatal Yoga Studio at 2605 Worthington dr. in Champaign.

Ayurveda massage is purifying, nourishing, relaxing and brings body, mind and spirit into harmony. The massage uses one quart of warm organic sesame oil on your body and includes two parts: Abhyanga- the body massage that brings the body mind to deep relaxation, preparing the body to the second part of the massage- Shirodhara- dripping oil over the third eye, forehead and scalp, which calms the mind and allows for deep relaxation and meditate state of mind by inducing slower brain wave activity.

It’s a pampering massage and a wonderful caring gift to yourself or your dearest .
